IAC recently undertook a case study with the Middle East based operator Gulf Air. An aircraft was chemically paint stripped and repainted with a newly developed paint system called “Base Coat Clear Coat” This newly developed system required fewer layers of paint thus reducing the overall weight of the paint system. The new products are highly pigmented and when applied by our specially trained painters they outperform traditional conventional high solid paint systems both in weight and service life.
The weight saving achieved on this aircraft with the new paint system was 165kg, and the aircraft type was an Airbus A320.
IAC are certified to apply these special products by the three main paint manufacturers, Akzo Nobel, PPG Aerospace and Mankiewicz and to date we have applied these products to the following airlines aircraft:
SAS Airlines, Icelandair, Vueling, Gulf Air, Cityjet Airlines, Aer Lingus, Thomas Cook, CSA Airlines, Air Malta to name a few.
Further benefits of using these systems include easier cleaning of the aircraft and reduced ground time as a result of faster drying time of the base coat products.
